LET'S TALK WIMA
Women in Media Alliance is a support centre which seeks to promote fair and inclusive representation of women in media organisations across Pakistan. We believe in highlighting the work of women affiliated with different mediums and providing them a platform to get their voices heard. Women journalists deserve equal rights and representation, and we demand equal pay, opportunities, and exposure for them. Media houses must implement policies and guidelines to rid workplaces of all forms of harassment. At WIMA, our prime responsibility is to ensure a fair and transparent support network for women journalists in Pakistan. Through WIMA Resource Hub, our team is committed to provide sustainable support to women journalists and content creators.
WIMA has been created as a support group to empower Pakistan-based women in media to ensure diverse and fair representation in national news and other forms of media too. Our members include women who have been creating all forms of content– ranging from hardcore news to serialised dramas and documentaries. We aim to empower our members by enhancing their skills and connections to facilitate them to create quality and ethical content.
We recognise both the power and challenges unique to Pakistani women in media, and aspire to grow as a community that embodies strong professional ethics and enables women in media to acquire professional excellence. We aim to build on our community’s collective knowledge, skills, and power to facilitate the process of making the media industry more inclusive and accepting.
We seek to empower Pakistan based women in media and help them actualize their professional potential in order to improve standards of the local media industry and improve the representation and portrayal in the media.
Our vision is to grow as an Alliance that directly contributes to the journalistic and media narratives that define and influence social and political norms in Pakistan. We seek to grow for the promotion of progressive and democratic values rooted in human and civil rights, inclusion, diversity and feminism.
